HIGH COAST HIKE

Packing list

You probably have most of the equipment you need, but like many others, you may need to borrow from a friend, rent, or perhaps buy something used or new.

On this page, you will find mandatory equipment as well as tips on affordable and really good gear for the adventure.

You don’t need the most extreme and technical gear to embark on an adventure. The main thing is that you feel comfortable in your clothes and you know how the kitchen works, and can set up your own or borrowed tent.

Just as important as the packing itself is that you can carry it. So make sure to go out and hike with a packed backpack now and then before the adventure.

A tip is not to bring excessively many changes of clothes. Leave the After-Hike clothes in the car or in the FriluftsByn, there’s time to shower and change before the celebration begins.

Sometimes it’s nice to get a little help with the settings so that the backpack fits really well. Naturkompaniet is on site and will assist you before we set off.

Borrow, rent, or buy?

Perhaps you have everything you need, or maybe you need to supplement with a sleeping bag, backpack, or tent. If you’re missing something, bring it up with your friends or ask in the participant group; often someone can lend you something. If you want to rent or buy new, visit the nearest Naturkompaniet store.

BORROW EQUIPMENT FROM OTHER PARTICIPANTS

Those who join the High Coast Hike are just as chill as you are. If you’re missing something significant, perhaps another participant would be willing to lend it in exchange for burgers and beer at the after-hike? High Coast Hikers >>

RENT EQUIPMENT AT NATURKOMPANIET

Naturkompaniet rents out tents for the entire adventure for 750 SEK. Örnsköldsvik, which is the nearest store, has a wide range, but you probably also have a store near you. (If you are two people, one can carry the tent fabric and the other can take the tent pegs.)

Haglöfs

Why: A super lightweight shell jacket that you bring out when it’s windy on the peaks or if it’s raining. This one is really good value for money.

CREWNECK LITE
Woolpower

Why: Because you want to hike in wool. And not a thick, heavy one, but a really lightweight one that regulates warmth and ventilation. This one is seriously awesome! Everyone should have one.
Crewneck Lite Unisex >>

HIGH COAST ZIP-OFF
Fjällräven

Why: Because you get a pair of lightweight pants that aren’t too bulky due to an excessive number of pockets. The fact that you can also convert them into shorts is super convenient and saves space in your backpack.

BACKPACK

If you’re buying a new backpack, our best tip is to actually visit one of Naturkompaniet’s stores. That way, you get the opportunity to try out one that fits you, and you’ll also receive a good overview of its features.

LITE PLUS STOVE
Primus

Why: Because it’s unnecessary to bring a large kitchen setup when you’ll mainly be boiling water for freeze-dried meals and possibly coffee and tea. The Lite Plus is the perfect size and very compact.

WILDERNESS AXE
Gränsfors Bruk

Why: Honestly, you really don’t need to bring an axe. But since we have your attention anyway, we just have to take the opportunity to tell you that everyone should have a Wilderness Axe in their life.
