How challenging is the Original?
We hike 10 – 16 kilometers per day, with the first day being the longest stretch. On day two, there’s an opportunity to take a shortcut – you miss out on beautiful views, but, on the other hand, you get to hike without elevation gain as day two starts with a hike up to a viewpoint.
If you experience challenges with your knees, back, or shoulders, you can also get assistance in transporting some of your gear back to the Outdoor Village on day three, allowing you to hike with a lighter pack on the last day.
We do everything to ensure that you have the best opportunity to enjoy the magnificent nature and the great camaraderie – but much depends on how well you’ve prepared.
If you feel uncertain, an alternative could be to register for Wanderlust. While The Original has ”shortcuts” that you can take if you’re feeling a bit tired, Wanderlust offers ”explorer rounds,” allowing you to add loops if you’re feeling energetic.
Can one interrupt the hike?
During the over 10 years we’ve been organizing the High Coast Hike, few individuals have had to interrupt their hike. But it can happen.
Often, it’s because they haven’t properly packed their backpack with the gear they’re bringing or haven’t prepared their bodies by hiking with a backpack. For others, it may be an old injury resurfacing.
Regardless of the reason, the result is often sore shoulders, back, or knees, making it tough to complete The Original.
However, we do everything we can to help you continue participating in the adventure:
- We suggest shortcuts that allow you to miss some of the views but take it a bit easier.
- In some places, we can assist in transporting parts of your gear. This is possible at Entré Syd and at the second night camp.
- You’ll receive transportation back to the Outdoor Village where you can set up camp and receive suggestions for personal tours before meeting up with the rest of the group on day 3.
- You’ll receive transportation back to the Outdoor Village where you can relax and prepare for the After-Hike.
Our goal is for you to still have a great experience, even if things don’t go exactly as planned this time.
